While the story is simple in its structure, it is impossible to miss the fun and comic timing of Rowan Atkinson, possibly one of the most versatile actors that I've seen. His expressions, and the smoothness that he puts into his imitation of 007 is simply hilarious and he turns out to be more of an Inspector Clouseau (of the Pink Panther fame) without too much of the senseless comedy that happens there. His acting is so believable, and you would almost always know what he would say next, but it still leaves you laughing almost every couple of minutes.

In final evaluation, Melancholia is very much the embodiment of Von Trier's commitment to producing a cinema of self-harm: it is a manifestation of his inner turmoil, explicated and resolved through this fantastical filmic wound, as he seeks to match the thrilling sensation of his inner melancholia (something audiences will invariably find troubling) with an exterior, artistic sensation. And it is incredibly successful in that agenda, albeit at a cost of the audience's enjoyment and traditional sense of pleasure. But then those responses are perhaps best viewed as the rituals of cinema that Von Trier is determined to destroy.

here's a smart, funny, observant comedy-drama to be made about the role our romantic pasts play in determining our futures, but director Mark Mylod and screenwriters Jennifer Crittenden (a Simpsons veteran who really should know better) and Gabrielle Allan are less interested in making that movie than in cycling Faris through a series of non-starting encounters with one-note-joke ex-flings, like the terminally British Martin Freeman or closeted gay Republican Anthony Mackie. Faris and Evans have frisky chemistry until a dire, endless third act separates them for the most arbitrary reasons. When What's Your Number? works at all, it's a testament to the charm and magnetism of the heroically unselfconscious Faris. She delivers a joyously unashamed performance in a flailing, sputtering rom-com that gives her and the rest of a supremely overqualified cast ample cause for embarrassment.
